Local business backs Government emissions saving support scheme

The relaunch of the Isle of Man Government’s Business Emissions Saving Scheme is the perfect opportunity for local businesses to accelerate energy efficiency plans and to seek support in cutting both future costs and emissions from the workplace, according to local standards and quality assurance company ISO QA.

As well as offering financial assistance for specific emission-saving projects, the scheme is offering eligible businesses grants of up to 75% for the cost of an energy audit, a vital first step in assessing where the most valuable improvements can be made.

ISO QA has been offering such audits for many years and Managing Director Kevin Burnell says the Government support will enable businesses to plan effectively and evidence the potential return on energy improvement projects.

“An energy audit is the cornerstone of an energy efficiency plan,” said Kevin. “It looks at all the different elements that contribute to energy consumption – lighting, heating, insulation and alternative energy – and provides the data needed to identify both what improvements can be made and the priority of those in order of importance.

“Our own energy audits are carried out by independent assessors who take into account all the individual factors that might be impacting thermal and energy efficiencies in the workplace.

“They also look at external factors such as weather and solar orientation, and assess usage patterns and behaviours which may be contributing to unnecessary energy use and costs.

“With sustainability and carbon footprint reduction very much at the forefront of stakeholders’ minds – and cost-effectiveness a basic requirement of any business – the Government’s relaunched scheme is an ideal opportunity for local companies to seize the moment and take action on energy efficiency.”
